In response to the questions below about the rack. The melamine shelves that i bought at lowe's measure 15 3/4 inches wide. The 41 qt sterilite tubs across the top measure 15 5/8 wide by 34 1/2 long. they fit perfectly. the floor measurements are 12 wide by 30 1/2 long. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. Rin

I put the rack together, a few of the shelves are really hard to slide in because the space is too tight, Don't know if I should fix them or they could be ok? A few of the shelves also have a bit of space, what's a safe space to have between the shelf and the tub? I'm worried that the snake might be able to escape.

The rack was very easy to put together, just need another person help you start it of. It's also easy to misjudge drilling the hole into the shelf.

The sides I actually ended up using were only 48 inches tall and I fit 7 tubs into that.
Im going to try to build another rack today for only 4 tubs. I should have just built a bunch of 4 tub racks and stack them on top, more economical and easier to build.

Thanks, Dave.

I would consider re-building the rack. I use spacers cut from melamine when building racks.

You can see pictures of this at the finegtps site under caging/rack building links.

If I were building a BP rack I would shoot for 3/16" of an inch. As I said in an earlier post, too big of a gap is always better than too little.

I built my racks with a sheet of dry erase board (1/8" or so thick) cut a little bigger than the size of my tubs and placed it between the tub and the shelf when building. That way I could remove the sheet from between the shelf and tub and have the approx. 1/8" gap needed for airflow and easy opening.
