There are green rats out there. ASAMOF, a lot of folks try to collect green rats in places like the Santa Rita Mtns. Unfortunately, wild collected snakes don't do well because of their parasite loads. I would get CB if I were going to start green rats. Even the ones that are captive born don't do very well, imho. I've kept a few and they don't make very good pets, being nervous and nippy, lots of times. Many have died in captivity also. In Arizona you can collect green rats, but you can't sell them. People who sell green rats from AZ are doing so against AZ law (which isn't right if you ask me.) They are protected in New Mexico also.

To find CB, try the ratsnake breeders. If you do online searches, try using Senticolis triaspis (intermedia). Elaphe is an old name, as it has been shown, they are not very closely related to the other ratsnakes in the U.S.

Good luck....TC.
