I have a 3 1/2 yr old that ate like a hog but the last couple of years he seems to go on a hunger strike once after about 3 months of not eatng I took him to the vet like yours he was not loosing weight but he just would not eat. vet told me to give him time he looked healthy and as long as he was not loosing weight he should be fine. well to make a long story longer he ended up eating after about 5 months and ate alot. I think mine seems to go on strike around october and starts eating again in March. I am by no means an expert on BP's But just thought I would share my experience. If your really worried get it to a go vet and have them check it out.

thanks for the response, i've been told similar but my other question is...does he get nasty....mine seems to strike alot....only way i can pick him up is to wear a pair of gloves...n then i have to put the one glove in on a stick to get him to stop striking before i can pick him up...

I have never had him strike. I have had him since shortly after his first shed and never once has he tried to bite me. Now my female she would strike at anything that moved close to the glass and I use to use gloves to get her out. My key to that was be persistant but gentle I just let her know that even though she would get quite nasty that she was comming out of her enclosure. now I have no problems with her at all she is as gentle as my male. It took about 2 months for her to calm down and that was getting her out about once a week. good luck with feeding and hopefully your bp will calm down a bit.

If he/she seems healthy then dont sweat. If they do not appear 2 be stressed dont worry. If it is a girl than they might be gravid.

mmellott Jun 23, 2003 08:58 PM

i'm truely not sure what sex it is...how can i tell without having it probed? and not to sound stupid, but what does gravid mean? i'm new to owning the bp ...sorry

Gravid means Pregnant/with eggs
and the only way to tell without an experienced person Probing him/her is to wait for eggs
no eggs, then it is a non issue
I would offer at regular intervals of about a week, and check skin apearence, and weight
if she looks bed, she just might be ill, otherwise, don't worry too to much
and the best way to learn is to ask questions, they APPEAR less stupid as U go alone, but in reality, no honest question is stupid
Keep up the good work

thanks, i've been keeping an eye on the bp...doesn't seem to be losing weight, jus finishing the second shed since i got it. though i am treating for a burn caused by a faulty uth. it's getting better, but still a lil yucky. and think this may be causing a bit of a problem with it's eating...having to handle him every day for treatment...i call it a him jus because. lol....he finally got a name two weeks ago...Battle...lol...from clockwork orange...lol...thanks again
