Photo of the two batches of Rep_Cal Pellets making really green poo

CheriS Jul 30, 2004 12:49 AM

I posted a few days ago about some batches of Rep_Cal are making the dragons poo more green and staining than is normal. The company says it is not a danger to them and ours have been eating them for over a month, just stains shelf liner easily. But just watch when you buy some that you are getting the original ones on the right and not the ones with more food coloring in them

Right is the regular rep_cal, left is the ones with a lot of food coloring

so the ones on the left are the ones with more dye? The ones on the right look like they'd have more. I think the ones I have are the ones on the left, but I haven't noticed any problems with the green dye, since my picky little beardie only likes the red ones (which makes for an expensive food bill, since that's the only food that he'll eat besides crickets, carrots, and acorn squash). It looks like there's a lot of red in that batch. In mine it's like 1 red to every 10 green, which means I'm throwing out quite a bit of green all the time. Right now I'm just pooring tons of green and tan in in hope that he'll keep eating them by accident when trying to get the red ones, and eventually realize that they are food too. He's seemingly getting very healthy right now (looks like he's almost rid of his pinworms, and he is going through a full body shed right now, so he is looking great!), so maybe once he's completely healthy and has a better appetite and a bigger belly I'll try harder to get him to eat greens and green pellets, but right now it's just healthier to let him eat the red ones.

and the one on the right is the one with more food coloring

I ordered juvie pellets, but got adult ones instead. So I just soak them and cut them when they are wet.

I see a fair amount of deep green poo, but to me it's a good thing to know that the pellets are being eaten either directly or through gut loading.

I don't get a big color indicator on the tan though.

Interesting. We've been feeding Oolong Rep-Cal pellets since we found him back in April, & they've always looked like the batch on the right... and he's always had vibrant green poo (he only likes the green ones). When we got his fecal done, the vet told us that his pinworms were stained the same shade of green. :D

Wow. I always thought the ones with less color were old stale pellets. I didn't know it was due to a change in the product.
