I bought this guy as a "dwarf spiny tailed iguana" that is supposed to reach about 18 inches STL as an adult. He is currently about 4 inches SVL and 9 inches STL. I'm taxonomically challenged.
Any suggestions?

Can you provide a better (close-up) picture of the tail and head, maybe also a pic of the thorns on its neck just behind the head ?
Thanks.

I took some new pics and posted them to the following link. I hope they are what you need.
Thanks for looking!

club tailed pics
It looks like a baby male Ctenosaura Oaxacana (Oaxacan Spinytail Iguana) to me (could be a female too, but the bright colored dots on its back make me suspect a male).
(See my pictures a few topics back)
Oaxacana is a recently defined species (Köhler and Hasbun 2001), and was considered Ctenosaura Quinquecarinata before.
But if you look up pictures of C.Quinquecarinata on the internet, you can see easily that that lizard looks quite different, C.Quinquecarinata is quite larger too...
I personally don't understand what took them so long (over 50 years) to consider it to be a different species, the differences between them is quite obvious
Of course, I could be very wrong, but I'm pretty confident it's the same species as mine.
Greetings.
Kris.

Thats a juvenile C.quinquecarinata. A club-tail iguana.

Are you sure it is quinquecarinata (check above weblink) ?
The quinquecarinata I've seen in pet shops have a totally different tail spine structure...

Haha
Well, I had no way of knowing that...
@Mark:
Your website seems to be only partially online (has been so for months). Any idea when it will be fully online ?
Can you give me more info or pics on the differences between Quinquecarinata and Oaxacana ?
Thank you.

The following link lists it as both C Quinquecarinata AND Oaxacan!
**sigh**
Don't start like that !
Most of the links on that website don't work.
Nearly all Ctenosaura species links work, except for the Quinquecarinata link, and the Oaxacana link has NO picture (maybe you should check the site yourself before answering that rude!)
Only the main page and Ctenosaura links (except for quinquecarinata) are working.

nonono....I wasn't trying to be rude!
I was trying to express my frustration at not being able to come up with a clear answer.
I did navigate thru that site. I also posted a question on their message board.
Ah ok...
Well, I still have doubts
Even with Mark's answer.
The pictures I've seen of C.Quinquecarinata, and the C.Quinquecarinata available in our local pet shop are still very different than our animal.
Most of them have a different tail, or different spikes on the back.
I will only be assured when confronted with good reference material and pictures.
Up to now I still haven't found a single picture of C.Oaxacana, and the C.Quinquecarinata pics on the web show all kinds of different Ctenosaura, LOL.

C Quinquecarinata.....cool!
That was my best guess from looking at the hundreds of CONFUSING Ctenasauras pics I could find.
(Now to go back and rethink his housing/care.)
West Coast Iguana? Sounds like I need to be looking for that site.
Thankyou!
