First off Matt I would like to see your proof as to how Pauls animal is a cross???????? I have produced many just like his pattern less from various breedings from unrelated DUMERIL'S.

"Right now, I think you guys have only proven the "hypo" trait to be be genetic. Further breeding will probably prove them out to be a co-dom."
Then please explain why Paul produced a hypo from two NORMAL siblings?? I am all ears as to why two NORMAL siblings of a codom trait as you put it produced a hypo. Last time I checked a codom trait is a codom trait and normal animal cannot produce a codom trait. Maybe like Paul said out of the thousands of breedings of Dumerils last year I guess he just somehow got lucky and produced a hypo. Of course the fact that the animals that produced that hypo were siblings to a hypo have absolutely nothing to do with it. Ok sure......

"I know this is pretty speculitive, but I'm basing my OPINION on unbiased science...The question on the belly is what solidified my opinion of him...And by having a white belly instead of a gray one is a very positive direction for a hypo, that is carrying an "all or nothing" trait"

Humm so his white belly made the case its an all or nothing trait because of that. I would love to read those scientific journals where they state animals with white bellies are genetic mutations. I would also love to see how they would define him with black saddles as a hypo yet an animal that properly fits the definition of hypo isnt; or is that all just your scientific opnion?

"I think you're making a huge mistake breeding Arancio to these hypos."
Good, who cares! Ill bred them to whomever I want, for whatever reason I so choose, however since you think Arancio and the Hypos offspring are just some "inbred POS" why should you care?
>
>
"These lines should be kept seperate"
Well thats your opinion however since your scientific knowledge is based on some science that states white belly = genetic trait instead of the work Paul and I have already done. I think Ill pass thank you
>
>
"It'll make a mess of a possible simple recessive hypo like Arancio"
Ok so hes simple recessive, so I guess the unrelated female I bred him to last year was a het??? Im following you now. Oh that right she was pig faced, I guess since she was pig faced she can throw any color morph she wants huh?
>
>
"You really don't have much of a proven trait with either line...."
"I think you guys have only proven the "hypo" trait to be be genetic."
Well which one is it? Neither are proven or the "inbred POS" hypos have been proven. Your jumping from ship to ship, just pic one and sail in it will ya!
>
>
"If Arancio proves out, I'll be throwing down some serious cash for that trait..."
No you wont, my "born dead babies...deformed pig-faced, kinked-back, inbred POS" Arancio or hypo offspring wont be for sale.......TO YOU!

"my only intent is to debate this issue-"
" I'm willing to drop it for now, let time be the judge."
What someone punches a couple holes in your story and you cop out with that crap??? Come on lets here about this "unbiased science" that proves arancio to be a trait because he has a white belly. Also I would love to hear more about how normal animals throw codom babies and of course I want to hear you god like opinion on why Pauls animal is a cross. You say your intent was to debate this is that so? Or do you have some personal agenda? Because the fact you attack the way you do then try to run when you cant back your garbage up leads me to believe you have a personal agenda.

below in the post "is it possable...."
the two sibs are not so visual but when bred together will produce the visual.
Like I said before the tiger boa sibs that are not visually tiger boas still look a little wierd and when bred together should produce a low # of tigers.
This may be a visual codominancy. if that is possable, I am still trying to work it out myself.
But like you said time will tell.

1) A Madagascar Ground Boa(MGB) has no cross-over back pattern. Hypothetically, by making an intergrade with a Dumerils, boas that were produced would partially express each parent, ie. patternless back animal that looks like a Dumerils or conversely a MGB with cross-over back pattern.
a) Also, a truly patternless dumerils would have no pattern.

2)Paul's hypo you're referring to was defective, kinked back and neck, oddly set eyes, and an upraised nose. Furthermore, that Dumerils doesn't look hypo to me. It has a lot of black on what little portion of that snake we can see. Also, that photo is of a baby dumerils, which are always more red at birth until they are 1 year of age.
a) Jason's hypo dumerils is most obviously premature. Dumerils, in my experience are born fully mature- with a head that is fully developed and broadly shaped. That and they are in the 14"-22" range. It does show some pattern reduction, but still shows a lot of black.
b) These "success" cases aren't proving anything.

3)From what I've seen on-line, the photos of the adult hypo female, she looks a lot like a normal dumerils boa. Anyone can make this comparison on Jason's site at dumerils.com, judge for yourself.

4) I didn't read your info on Arancio before I started posting, that's why I made the error that he looked like a simple recessive- I haven't seen him in person so I guess I really don't know exactly what color he is. But from the very limited breeding success you've had, a litter of stillborns, this trait isn't proven in any direction- co-dom or simple recessive.
a)Where are the photos of these stillborn Arancios?
b)Why in the photo of Arancio and his "sibling", taken when he was a baby, is Arancio half the size of the littermate?

5)I was "trying to try" to be nice about Arancio, by inferring that the boa could be a hypo- since he is ultra-clean in his background color and he has a pure white belly. After reading the current info you have supplied, you're right he's not a hypo, he's an "Arancio"- possibly one of those MGBxDums I mentioned in #1- a boa that has the background color(peach/copper) of a MGB and the cross-overs of a Dumerils.
a)I would rather a "market friendly" name be given to that line, rather than a pipe-dream like "hypo". He's just a really nice looking boa, and not a legit morph.

6) I do have an agenda. To expose an outright misrepresentation within the market, before somebody spends $1000 dollars on a pair of normal Dumerils. You guys are using "bad science" to drum up business with your dumerils boa. They are well within the taxonomic discriptions of the breed.
a) Thanks for cutting me off from your gene pool, diving into water that shallow would be hazardous to my collections health.

You have a lot of bad information your passing along yourself. I do believe if you look at enough Mad. ground boas you will indeed find those who have pattern that crossed over the back. If you can not find some, let me know and I'll provide you the proof. Jason DID post pics of the litter containing Arancios stillborns last year some time I believe. This non sense about dumerils being more red up until a year old, well, is exactly that...NON SENSE! We're not working with chondros here. You may want to re-examine your own definition of the hypo trait. See, in most cases hypo defines a REDUCTION in black, NOT A TOTAL LACK OF BLACK! HUGE DIFFERENCE! I examined my hypo BCI last night, and some have speckling on their bellies, so not SOLID WHITE...was I ripped off? They also have black in MANY areas of their bodies...again, was I ripped off? As far as your opinion on ANY trait by visualizing a single phenotype and predicting the nature of it's genetics, whether they be co-dom or recessive is about as ignorant as you can get. Go, scroll through some Mad. Ground boas-do some research, Go look at some hypo BCI and get an idea of the amount of black still present-do some research, and stop passing out BAD husbandry info on keeping dumerils. I've seen you post it a couple times and left it alone, but if you're going to start accusing us of having cross breeds, and being crooks, I'll be sure to start pinning you on all your erroneous statements regarding dumerils in general. Well, while your finding your premature baby pics that look like hypos, I'd also like to see pics of your baby dumerils that are really red as babies and a pic of the same baby at a year old. I can provide pics of some of my litters for comparison if need be. And if you want to comment on the shallow waters within someone elses gene pools, please give us the detailed background info on YOUR dumerils along with proof of any claims made. I'd hate to see you possibly selling offspring from related parents. Hey by the way, did you rip on Jeremy Stone AND Tom Burke for selling Het for T positive central americans last season???? I'm just curious because below you used them as an example of PROOF and at that time NOBODY had PROVED THEM GENETIC! NOBODY! I believe Tom, just within the last month produced the actual first captive bred T positives, but according to a couple of you he needs to breed them a few more times before he can say anything for sure regarding the genetics of the animal being either co-dom or recessive....RIGHT???????

So Matt why, yesterday was my hypo proven??
“Right now, I think you guys have only proven the "hypo" trait to be be genetic. Further breeding will probably prove them out to be a co-dom”
Now today
“From what I've seen on-line, the photos of the adult hypo female, she looks a lot like a normal dumerils boa."
Yesterday Arancio was recessive but today hes normal. You claim the change of mind is because of the info on my site. Now tell why did you changed your mind about the hypo??? Are you just throwing a tantrum and jumping from ship to ship again because you cant find anything in your science to back your bull?
Oh and please explain to me once again how Paul produced a hypo from two siblings of a codom trait. Oh…. Hell…. never mind, youll just copout with that “yesterday Pauls was a hypo but today it’s a normal” because you cant think of any better garbage to save yourself from looking like a butt. What a load of crap.

“1) A Madagascar Ground Boa(MGB) has no cross-over back pattern. Hypothetically, by making an intergrade with a Dumerils, boas that were produced would partially express each parent,”
Ok I see when asked about your science once again you couldn’t find anything in it so now were speaking in hypotheticals? Nice way of trying to twist on out, not gonna work. Have you ever bred ground boas? Have you ever owned a ground boa?? Have you ever seen one in person, if so how many and what sizes? Please answer all three
>
>
“a) Also, a truly patternless dumerils would have no pattern.” Have we resorted to splitting hairs?
>
>
“Also, that photo is of a baby dumerils, which are always more red at birth until they are 1 year of age.”
So tell me, did your science teacher or the journals your getting your wisdom from tell you they change at one year of age or have you ever bred any dumerils in past years. If this assumption that they all change at one year of age is coming from your breeding stock I would say you have poor lines. Good lines will hold the red and pink as adults. Also I am curious since were splitting hairs do they change on their one year b-day or do they at least get to celebrate their birthday prior to metamorphosing the day after?
>
>
“Dumerils, in my experience are born fully mature- with a head that is fully developed and broadly shaped.” Ahhh that the word I was wondering about, what exactly is your experience? And since we are discussing experience what has your experience taught you that an animal that had enough pressure on it, to kill it should look like? Should it look nice and vigorous like its ready for a hot date? or a little flattened out and less defined?
Oh heres a clip from an email you sent me “So, for now I'm sitting on 1.2 adults” That would make your experience….what……very limited? From your postings here nadda?
>
>
“From what I've seen on-line, the photos of the adult hypo female, she looks a lot like a normal dumerils boa.” Yesterday you were telling us that she would prove codom with further breeding trials, Ill be darned, why the change of heart? Is staying focused to challenging for you? Its codom, no its recissive, today its hypo bla bla bla. I am here, wait no, now I ma here, now I am going to jump this way. Ill beat you have a break down on election day trying to figure out who to vote for.
>
>
“Why in the photo of Arancio and his "sibling", taken when he was a baby, is Arancio half the size of the littermate? “ Well lets see, while she is bigger shes not near double his size now second she was the largest in the litter and third she ate great from the start and Arancio was a slow starter. I guess that kind of goes along with the experience I was talking about above, youll learn that feeding habits vary within litters and those feeding habits can cause different growth rates. We can forgive ya for that one, well just chalk that one up to lack of experaince.
>
>?
“was "trying to try" to be nice about Arancio, by inferring that the boa could be a hypo- since he is ultra-clean in his background color and he has a pure white belly.”
I as well as many others would still love to learn more about this mysterious science you failed to comment on; that has given you the knowledge to be able to tell by a pic that an animal is a trait. Also I would love to know how this science taught you to be able to tell what kind of trait an animal is even when it goes against the breeding trials? Oh and lastly I would love to hear an explanation of how this science taught you a white belly means its a genetic trait,
“The question on the belly is what solidified my opinion of him”
Now don’t copout this time!
>
>
"I think you're making a huge mistake breeding Arancio to these hypos."
Oh really?…….Well why would it matter today your saying they are both normal animals and nothing will come from breeding either of them. So now that you have totally made a hypocrite of yourself and changed your mind and think, these are normals do I finally have your blessing to bred these two, together???
>
>
“All that said, I think you're making a huge mistake breeding Arancio to these hypos. It will only futher confuse things in the long run. These lines should be kept seperate, like cornsnake hypos were done. Cornsnakes first had a simple recessive hypo trait, then through selective breeding super hypos were created.”
Well according to your alter ego who has been posting today there not genetic so why should it matter? Tomorrow are we going to get the Matt that cares and thinks I am making a mistake by crossing these lines he believes to be codom and recessive or are we going to get the one who cant remember the enthusiasm he posted with the prior day talking about how awesome these animals are and how they will prove out and how he is going to slap some cash down for them?
>
>
“Thanks for your understanding Jason, my only intent is to debate this issue”
I guess you just wanted to debate this till your fingers decided to insult a very good friend of mine, his animals, my animals, myself and the 5yrs I have put into this project as well. Then like a 2yr old who didn’t get his way you post all this garbage trying to get the last word in because theres been a huge whole shot straight throw everything you have said.
>
>
I'll be throwing down some serious cash for that trait... HE IS AWESOME.”….. “Thanks for cutting me off from your gene pool, diving into water that shallow would be hazardous to my collections health.”….”
Sure not a problem……..oh by they way incase I forgot to send you the Fedex tracking number for the Dumeril’s I sent you last week or the week before here it is 847860891585…………… Oh never mind, he already got there, I just found your email
“Very nice dumerils. His contrast really brings out the pattern. Much more
cryptic that most, a unique boa.”
Cool I am glad your happy with him.

Humm funny how when I had something you wanted you could turn a blind eye and spend money with someone who you claim miss represents their animals.
“Sorry, I've been such a "soap boxer" lately. Maybe a sale will bury the hatchet.”
But as soon as you get what you want your back on your soap box. Ya know someone I talked to yesterday about these threads told me jealousy makes men do crazy things. They must have been right.
Anyway I have to get ready for a show on Sunday so if you would like to further this Ill be back Monday. See ya!

I had asked him what mechanism the trait was working under and how much would a hypo be worth. Date July 7 2004, the week he sold me a Dumerils from an unrelated line...

Thats cool no big deal, as far as the hypo I really have no idea, ive just been trying to prove it out lol, proablly in the $2500-5 area if they look like mom, the baby in the pic had alot more contrast then mom, I really dont know ive been on this for close to five years now and at the current rate it will take till 2015 or something till I have any for sale LOL Once I get some and see what their like and how string they are Ill worry about $ values,

Matt Schubarth

thecaiman Jul 31, 2004 01:49 PM

Matt what exactly is your point with that?
“I had asked him what mechanism the trait was working under and how much would a hypo be worth.” What mechanism are you talking about? All you asked about was the price
Your email to me asking about the hypo in full on 7-7-04

“I too have been dealing with a very similar exotic animal ownership senate
bill for the last year. We've just arrived to the point were the committies
are meeting to decide what is going to be banned. It has a state wide
effect and is an obvious attempt to phase out exotics. Fight them to the
bone my friend. I'm appreaciative for all your info on the hypo morph. Very
exiting that it could be a mendalian trait rather than a co-dominant type,
I love market stability. If I may ask what did you pay or what do you think
the current market value is on the hypo morph? I'm sorry I didn't get off
the money today, but be confident that I'm a buyer not a BS'er. I'll get it
off tomorrow for sure. Hope that's not a problem.
Later-
Matt”

My response in full same day

“Thats cool no big deal, as far as the hypo I really have no idea, ive just been trying to prove it out lol, proablly in the $2500-5 area if they look like mom, the baby in the pic had alot more contrast then mom, I really dont know ive been on this for close to five years now and at the current rate it will take till 2015 or something till I have any for sale LOL Once I get some and see what their like and how string they are Ill worry about $ values, as far as the laws were living on barrowed time I dont see this hobby lasting longer then 10yrs or so, theres a few people that care and want to do something, then theres some who will write a letter but wont put any more effort in then that and theres alot that wont do anything because they only want to take what they can while they can, many of the being the key players making the big money, that would actually have a little impact if they got involved but there to worried about trying to produce their next purple poka a dot ball python they can get 50g's for to care, I hope I am wrong but I thinnk in 10yrs this whole industry is going to be turned upside down, the humaniacs are trying to shut us down by passing these laws and choking us out to the point that there wont be enough people left where it legal to own these animals for anyone to make a living doing this, or to be able to sell a ball pythns for 20g's, someday well be confined to just a few states and living out in the boonies in those because the humaniacs are using fear and doing it well to get these laws passed in the big cities, no one in any of the cites that ban pythons is going to invest 15g's into a spider ball for fear of being turned in and the city taking it, ive been around since 88 and have seen this thing come full swing, 80's everyone was underground because we were all looked at like losers, 90 reptiles became mainstream and everyone wanted one, Mid 90's if you went ot a show and didnt sell every animal on your table you were either selling iggy's or your prices were outragious, 98 or 99 everything hit the downhill side and since then the laws have come about, up until that suet by HSUS to ban reptiles nationally a couple years back, aside from that every once in a rare while you would hear of a township banning them, more time then not because some idiot kid with a 12ft burm scared the mayors wife when he paraded his snake down the street, , I can acount for 4 differant cities and states within the last few weeks that have popped up, so I dunno its sure going to be a ride, if were lucky well get by with the smaller snakes, who knows, anyway just let me know when it goes out Ill keep an eye out for it thanks Jason”

Now he is trying to use this statement “as far as the hypo I really have no idea, ive just been trying to prove it out lol, probably in the $2500-5 area if they look like mom”
which was a sarcastic statement about my (ive just been trying to prove it out lol) track record with slugs Im 2 for 5 this year and last year I slugged everything. All I was referring to is I would worry about $ value of the hypos once I had hypos on the ground. Weve proven this trait through two breedings now. If I am not sarcastic and try to have a laugh about slugging out thye way I have been it stresses me as it would anyone else.

If your referring to this statement “Once I get some and see what their like” I was referring to was how colorful they would be, I am sure Ill get some that don’t look as good as others and of course the price will vary.

IN any event, the thing I think is the most entertaining part. He is trying to use the above email to show I am some kind of crook who misrepresent his animals yet on 7-9-04 he still sent me money .After I made the statement he is now trying to use. Not one but two days after receiving the email above. If I am such a crook then after having two days to think about my crooked ways did you still spend money with me? Is it because you know I am not a crook and your jealous? Is it because your mad that I told you I wouldn’t sell to you after you insulted me? Or are you just simply mad that you think your experience(which you have yet to comment on) is above everyone else’s and your pissed I wont take your advice concerning me breeding Arancio to the hypo?

Below is the email he sent me 7-9-04 confirming payment sent. Two days after he now claims to realize I am a crook.

“Hello-
I got the money order off today, sent it priority with the post office.. so
should have it by Monday. USPS# 2907770801. Geez, are we of like mind on
the exotic thing. The comment about the "all exotic ban in 10 years" pretty
much sums it up. But I just don't really state that since most would just
think I'm paranoid. Its becoming a reality, brother. Good point on the big
breeders though. I'm impressed that PIJAC ponied up the dough for
lobbyists. Could you send me some pics of the Dumeril? Shipping address
below for when you get paid.
Thanks-
Matt Schubarth”

Now lets see a quote from the above post by Matt” Date July 7 2004, the week he sold me a Dumerils from an unrelated line...”

An email I sent to Matt 7-13-04 the day the animal was shipped, which gave him 6 days to cancel the sale and 4 to ask for a refund since I am such a crooked person.
“Heres your fedex tracking number 847860891585, if the right people get involved it sounds like it could actually be a good system, save alot of reptiles, let me know when you get him thanks Jason”

Now considering you are trying to use my statement above against me please explain why on 7-29-04, 22 days after you received that email from me you said this
“Right now, I think you guys have only proven the "hypo" trait to be be genetic. Further breeding will probably prove them out to be a co-dom.”
22 days after the sarcastic remark you are now trying to use, YOU agreed this was a trait and somehow through your science, (you refuse to comment on) you even said it would be codom.

Now as further proof to the fact you are only trying to cause trouble. Six days after the remark he is now using I got this email from Matt, and of course because even he knows I am not a crook he doesn’t mention anything about me being a crook. Of course, because as he acknowledged on 7-29-04 there is no mention of my hypos being misrepresented or non genetic because once again he knows theres been enough work to prove them out as stated above in his quote. The only thing mentioned in the below email 6days after that comment is talk about the laws and asking if his dumerils went out as planned.

“Our state, passed a into law last year, a bill that sets up a review
committee to decide which exotic(non-native, non-domesticated) animals pose
a significant threat to native wildlife and human health. The committee was
originally setup with no oversite from the public, which is one of the few
additions hobbyists got tacked onto the bill. The author of the bill, from
the Audoban Society, was actually quite open minded to change. Her only
angle was intended to protect a native swan that had problems with a
non-native swan. She really wasn't the author, this bill has been around
for some time. Her flexibliity allowed for a list of exotics that would be
put on a non-controlled list, which was written into the bill before its
passage. However, the review committee is yet to meet to decide which
animal will be put on a controlled list(liscence) and which will be put on
the banned list. Items that were discussed as banned were rediculous. Bull
Frogs, some idiot had released tadpoles in a golf course pond and` they
morphed into frogs.. not sure what the problem really was though... as soon
as the winter chill hit.. they died. I'd like to get on the committee with
the intent to keep ALL exotics off that list, give them an inch they'll
take a light- year. As the bill now reads, it allows for a concerned
citizen(that's the girl from the Audoban) and an individual from the exotic
animal industry. The guy that has currently been put on the committee for
the industry has a limited scope for the current markets and has only bred
snake(however, he now only keeps them as pets). At one time, I bred over 30
species of reptile and amphibian, much lower now. But also breed a variety
of exotics; Capuchins and small cats among them which are sure to be put on
the controlled list. I'll probably be grandfathered in on them, but my
local market will evaporate. A real [bleep] storm. Anyway, did you get the
dumerils off today? Can I get the tracking #, if you did.
Thanks-
Matt Schubarth”

Nice friendly email wondering if his dumerils went out as planned. If he truly believed I was crooked he had every opportunity to back out. If that email truly is the clincher then why on the 29th did he agree the trait was proven even going as far to tell us it was codom. If that email on the 7th truly made him believe I was a crook then why did he continue to email me send me the quote below on the 9th after he received the animal and no longer had to worry about my crooked ways ripping him off.
“Jason and Danica-
Very nice dumerils. His contrast really brings out the pattern. Much more
cryptic that most, a unique boa. Thanks very much.”
At the very least I would tend to think if he truly believed what he now sasy I would have never heard from him again. In any event I thinks its apparent he is only trying to cause trouble. Could be for the reasons I stated above could be for a million others, who knows.

Matt Please if you are going to reply respond to this
Have you ever bred ground boas? Have you ever owned a ground boa?? Have you ever seen one in person, if so how many and what sizes? Please answer all three

Now just to be clear we are talking about Dumerils not corn snakes mammals or any other species.

Now tell why did you changed your mind about the hypo??? And don’t waste my time saying its because the email above. Why don’t you just level with everyone and tell us your real reasons?
