A couple of Veiled questions...please

Chameleon996 May 14, 2003 01:45 PM

1. What kind of rope can I put in my veileds cages? I have vine but it won't work once they get bigger so I figured I could wrap it around a rope and it would give them something thicker to hold on to.

2. Why did my female just shoot her tongue at her own droppings? She didn't eat it but caught it none the less.

Thanks Dawn

Any type of sisal or natural hemp rope would work, but watch it for mold if it stays wet. Natural plant branches from outdoors work fine as well. Just be sure to scrub them and let them dry thoroughly before using them. If there are lots of bushy live plants in the cage this will give a lot of traveling and climbing routes. Sometimes chams shoot at things by mistake. He may have thought he'd found a dark bug to eat. BTW, chams love hunting houseflies too.

We use the articificial vines - the thickest ones for our Veiled. We string them across the cage and around the frame of his Reptarium. The Pothos climbs in and around them. At the Reptile Shows around here (NY/PA/MD/NJ) there is one dealer who sells them for 4 bucks a pop - very good deal, and the nicest ones I've seen. As far as your female - hey, it was moving and she was hungry! LOL. My leos and beardies "Attack" their droppings during feeding time if their food ventures to close to any. If it's dark they figure it's food. (Eventually they catch the ACTUAL bug though.
