Diff. between germans and normals?

smallfry Jul 30, 2004 10:15 AM

Not the people, but beardies!

The normals seem to be a desert color, while the germans are a bit lighter. Any differences in temperment/size/care?

Just the obvious, size. I've noticed they look less spiky around the head and almost all of the ones I've seen have been fairly light in coloration. Otherwise I don't think there's much a difference.

I believe the pure blooded German Giant is one of the hardest Dragons to purchase and be certain it's bloodline is 100% authentic. They do look a lot like Sandfire/Pasel X at hatch amount and also look a lot like lighter colored normals. A lot of breeders cross Germans with their stock to get bigger dragons and bigger clutches - its a very common practice. If a breeder is not on the up and up and the colors don't come from the X he or she expected they may try to pass them off as 100% Germans. With Germans I would personally go to someone that is reputable and will be there in a couple years (Dragon Den, etc)- if possible. The only requirement is to provide possibly a little extra room when they are adults. I have heard pure Germans don't have the best temperment - but from what I have seen - this is more of an opinion than a rule.
Thanks Steve
