colubrid101 Jul 30, 2004 12:00 PM

I own an asian vine snake and yesterday I finaly got him to eat a sented pinkie. I have never heard of this happening before so I was concerned if it was healthy or not. Please give me your ideas.

There are a lot of opinions concering putting non-rodent eating snakes onto a rodent diet...most people don't have a problem with it. King cobras (Ophiophagus hannah) are almost exclusively snake eaters in the wild, with the occasional lizard or monitor even slipping into their diets, but not mice or rats...however in captivity, due to it being both difficult and expensive to provide a snake diet, most kings are switched over to rodents through scenting usually. Most keepers don't seem to notice any problems with it and it's actually recommended by most keepers.

I don't see any problems with switching a gecko-eater over to rodents, as long as the snake doesn't mind
