Panther Illness Help.

evlded Jul 30, 2004 02:53 PM

Greetings All,

I have a 7 month old male Sambava Panther.

About one month ago he cut his lip on a branch and from that an infection formed.
His mouth was swollen open, an eye was swollen shut and he had a large swelling on top of his snout.

I took him to the vet in very bad condition (Skinny and Dehydrated).

I've had him on Baytril for 2 weeks now, the swelling is 95% gone.

He is nearly completely healthy except for the fact that he will not eat.

Right after I started the Baytril I started using Repta-Aid Insect/Carnivore Emergency Aid.

This has kept him going quite well as he is even putting weight back on.
But with his health fully restored I expect him to go back to eating normally.
But he is refusing any food except the Repta-Aid Insect/Carnivore Emergency Aid.
I have offered: Crickets, Mealworms, Waxworms, Wild Butterfly, Flies.
He will not even look at the insects. Should I give him a little while longer or just stop feeding the Repta-Aid Insect/Carnivore Emergency Aid and see if he will start eating?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Paul

how was the baytril administered? orally or injected?
when using baytril it is very important to keep the chameleon
very well hydrated as it is hard on the kidneys

The vet gave an injection the very first day.
From that point I gave .03 cc everyday for 1 week.
Since that point I have given .03 cc every 48 hrs.
He is misted 3 times daily and has a constant drip system.
His eyes are extremely round and healthy.
He looks to be in excellent shape overall except his swollen eye is still a little sunken.
He just isn't interested in food at all.

Thanks,

Paul

"except his swollen eye is still a little sunken"

Oxymoron anyone??

I meant his eye that was swollen has since gone down and become only slightly sunken.
