If you were in the market for a pastel hatchling, how would you go about it?

zhenchok Jul 30, 2004 04:01 PM

How would you grade the quality of the pastel that you were purchasing? With that one post being up recently about receiving a bad quality pastel, I have my hesitations. My question however, is more on the topic of how would you rate the look of a pastel you were buying as far as the patern and color goes? I hope my question is clear. Thanks, David.

I have heard from alot of people that the babies with alot of orange tend to brown out as adults. Orange turns brown ewww.

I think the color on pastel babies and adult are differet (current me is I am wrong). So how do we know which babies will get better color when they grow up?
Thanks.

IMHO the lighter ones with alot of blushing make nicer adults.

Since I think you are referring to my post and my "low quality" pastel. I will respond. I would look for lots of light blushing, a very light (pastel) head with very clear (not black) and light colored eyes, I would look for a pastel that is deffinitely not orange but has more of a yellow look almost like the bleeding through of a yellow marker when it touches the black outline. I would look for a very light colored nose like the snake almost looks blurry to look at it in person. The sides of a nice pastel will have a lot of blushing as well. All in all, if the snake looks almost "fake" when you hold it..like it almost is not a real animal..thats when you have a nice pastel. just my opinion. this i guess is not what you want to look for.

Make sure you pay a whole lot for it as people with nice pastels have the sense to charge for what they have. Do not get it from a friend where you have seen many babies they have produced or someone you trust. Look for the highest priced pastel in the classifieds...they are the ones who will set you straight and be sure to ship out the best looking animal in their collection.

Man, I can taste the attitude from here. What's your problem? The poster asked a simple question ...

The attitude was from a belows post in response to a comment about one of my animals. There really is not a whole lot of attitude but the comment rubbed me wrong so this was my smart response back...childish I know but the post below was kind of rude so I felt sarcasm was needed...I do think the advice I gave for looking for a good pastel was still beneficial and good advice...just with some smart remarks toward another person added in. Sorry

I was actually referring to that sickly animal that someone bought on this forum. He bought it from supposedly
"a reputable breeder." It turned out to be a sick snake, this is why I’m hesitant about purchasing a pastel. I would also like one that won’t get dark when it grows.
