This is a small creek feeding into the larger creek that I posted in the previous post.

Lot of frogs, small fish, just can't find any snakes.

I have never herped that particular area, but I have herped many areas that look very similar. I remember when I was younger having a real hard time finding snakes in forested areas such as what you posted in your photo. What are the temps like? If you are flipping rocks or other ground cover, you will want the temps to be rather low, probably in the 70's at least, and maybe even into the 60's. You might have to look early in the morning to be out when temps are this low. Or maybe you might have to wait until later in the year if the temps are not getting this low in your area. Another alternative is to try road cruising. Pick a night when the temps are in the 70's or 80's at night and find a road that passes through appropriate habitat that gets little or no traffic. Drive along the road slowly and you will eventually find snakes. I guarantee that if you keep looking, you will learn how to find snakes in your area. Dont give up!

The south Plains area is finally going into a more typical hot/dry weather pattern, which means most of the snakes will become more nocturnal and less likely to be seen during the heat of the day. The best times to look will be early in the morning, when it's relatively cool.
