TO GET A TEGU OR TO NOT GET A TEGU THAT IS THE QUESTION

BARRETT Jul 30, 2004 06:55 PM

Hello everyone out there i am a new user but have been reading alot about tegus. My question is that I live in Greensboro NC, and I would love to get a tegu as a pet. The problem is that I am not sure how long I will remain in this area or even this country. While i would love to have one as a pet I do not wish to try and transport an animal like that arcoss the country or out of it any suggestions on what i should do would be welcomed and any info about moving them accross statelines or out of the country would be very helpful. Thanks you.

Hello there how are you? My Tegus travel well given I do not allow the airconditioner to chill the vehicle in summer. I know all about moving around the country. As for out of the country though that is a little more difficult to answer. When it was looking like I had to go to Germany I did some checking. Getting them into Germany was not bad a vet health check and a quarentine period then I could have them. I do not know which country you would be going to I am sure each has thier own rules. All I can say is do a little checking before you buy one. I would hate to see you get one then have to find him a home because the country you are going to will not allow them in. Good Luck to you. Also when I have to travel in country for a move. Mine are allowed to roam the van. At night in the motels they sleep in a wire topped Dog crate So the lights can sit there. Food for them is more a problem than anything. Like I say good luck to you.

I will do some checking since the information has always been given to me. The army always asks if you have pets when they send us overseas and then they get us the information. I will ask around a little to see if I can find where they get it. I am not sure if customs might have something on thier website that could point you in the right direction. As for Canada that is an open border. When I lived in Montana I used to do dogsledd races there all the time and border patrol or customs never said a word about what went across. The qoute about foxholes seemed fitting given my current situation. Good luck in the search, I wish you the best.

Hey there I talked to legal services over here and they did not know the laws right off the top of thier heads and they do not have the books with them over here since nothing from here is allowed back with us. I was told to try the U.S. Customs dept. though they would be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck and I hope this helps you out.
