The Mexican Beaded Lizard(Heloderma horridum) can be imported possessed and bred in the state of California without a permit from CA Department of Fish and Game, although many cities and counties prohibit the keeping of venomous reptiles. The Gila Monster(Heloderma suspectum) is a prohibited species in the state of California and requires a special prohibited species permit per California Department of Fish and Game. It is your
responsibility to know the laws concerning the animals you keep.
I hope this answers some questions concernig the keeping of both species of Heloderma in California.
Thank you,
