How long should I Quarantine my new burm before I add him to my other Burm?

unless your breeding, dont put them in at all
Why would I not want to put my burms together? I have a few red tails and ball pythons together...
Pythons and boas are solitary animals in the wild and housing them together puts stress on them. Not to mention different species may be carriers of parasites that may not be harmful to them but harmful to the other species since they are indigenous to different parts of the world.
The way I read it was that he has ball pythons living together with ball pythons, and common boas with boas. I don't think this is terrible, but not the best situation. Personally I think boas do better together than pythons, but are still happier alone. I definatly hope he isn't mixing boas and pythons.

Ahhh man...i dont even wanna explain, ill be too rude. They need to make a special forum, or posts that stay on top of the forum on all these forums about putting snakes together...I see posts alllll the time about people asking about housing together, all get the same answer, i dont see how the hole world doesnt know yet...
Sorry but i have too disagree with your statement, for one its easy to put "Snakes don't do well together"....ect. people will always ask this question cause pet stores always have a lot of snakes in the same cage. I think by seeing this at the pet stores, some people get curious and start thinking about doing the same. I'm not saying its wright but its just curiosity. Zoos have 2-4 large snakes that share each in closer. I don't have all of my large pythons sharing a cage but i do have two females that share a huge walk in cage. In there walk in cage they have plenty of room and a lot of basking spots. believe it or not the hole cage doesn't even get used they only use about 25% of the cage SPACE,. my advise is if your going to keep more then one burm in the same cage: make shore the cage is big enough for them too both have there own basking spots, give them Atlases a 4 foot water bowl, take them for lots of exercise, and make shore the cage is never dirty. old pic of my baby
about the zoos having more than one snake per enclosure I acn safly say that they are much much larger enclosures than you average hobbyists and they have much more room. Some zoos are crappy anyways and do not take care of them correctly. I realy think it is a bad idea to do it. I think if you are not willing to spend a few extra $ bills to build/ buy another enclosure you have no business with having more than one. If you are trying to recreate a naturalistic environment then it would have to be pretty big for a big snake. Right? But if for some reason you have a desire to keep them together besides during breeding then you should go look on the bob clark forums. I cannot remember which one though. They can become stressed out to I'm sure you have heard or should have heard anyways. Give me one good reason to put snakes together. Only thingds I can think of that is logical is to save $ on a building size specific enclosures and breeding them. Snakes do not desire to be with other snakes.

I explained he would need a big cage and take them out alot. I have a lot of space in my cage, if i really wanted to, me and my friends can all sleep in it. i have a few basking areas and they share a 4 foot water bowl. with all of this room they are either soaking or bunched up in the same corner. If snakes cant stand each other how come the two that i sharing a cage are so comfortable with each other? with what I'm saying I'm not just talking out my a## I am explaining my experience with two burms sharing a cage. I have a lot of burms and retics that have there own reptile cages. the two females that i have sharing are not more stressed then all of the other reptiles in my collection. I have sat and watched people say you cant put snakes in the same cage. But i never seen anybody with good point except for things that are easy to Handel and prevent.
I did not say they cannot stand each other. I was saying they do not care if there is another snake in there or not. exactly why would you want to keep them together though. hat is what I'm asking because i cannot come up with a reason that I'd want to. I do not want to start argueing so don't take anyhting personal alright. Some may tolerate each other bettr than others. Did you look at the thing on the bob clark forums? There is a good reason not to. But like I said some will tolerate each other and some may for just a little bit and some may not tolerate at all. I personally would rather spend an extra $60-$100 fr another enclosure and also save sapce by stacking. But you can do wwhat you want to do.

If the whole world knew then KS would not be neccessary. If your tired or people asking the same question, then don't respond. The whole point of KS is to help each other out, even the ones who may be new and haven't researched the entire KS history. I'm sure any question asked has already been covered and I'm sure you don't know it all. Perhaps you should start a whole separate forumn for those who are tired of answering the same questions. Sounds boring to me.
If you want to take your toys and go home fine. If you're going to stay and play, you need to share and play nice!

I'm not exactly sure how long you need to quarrantine your new snake. I don't have lots of snakes coming in and out of my collection anymore, so I've kind of forgotten what the experts say. I would say at least two weeks, maybe as many as four. Make sure the new addition is free of mites, eating normally, and its poop looks good (as good as poop can look; you know what I mean).
That being said, I just bought a new snake, a 12 foot albino male that I purchased last week. It's my first new snake in since 2000. I'm going to give him two to four weeks of quarrantine.
Now, about the issue of keeping multiple snakes in one enclosure: You will find all kinds of opinions about this, as you have already seen. The best advice is not to do this. HOWEVER, I myself have done this for many years without incident. I don't currently do it, but I won't say that it won't happen in the future. I have my older Burmese in a walk-in cage -- 12 feet long, four feet wide, eight feet tall. It's a third of a 12x12 building that I had built specifically to house my snakes. With all that space, why not put another snake in there?
There can be problems, though. You have to separate the snakes when it comes to feeding. And that can get a little dicey. Being in the cage between two hungry snakes requires a lot of caution and planning. If an accident is going to happen, it's more likely to happen when removing a snake for feeding or when putting a snake back in the cage after feeding. That was the biggest issue I faced -- moving the snakes for feeding. Also, if one snake gets sick, it is very possible that the illness can spread to its cagemate(s). Fortunately, I've never had that problem, but it is always a possibility.
In the end, you have to make the decision to house multiple snakes in one enclosure yourself. I wouldn't put two 12 footers in an 8-foot Neodesha cage. But if you have a walk-in enclosure, it wouldn't be too bad. But realize the dangers, particularly in terms of feeding.
My older Burm is in the big cage; the new one is in an 8-foot Neodesha. I am considering putting the new one in with the old one when the quarrantine period is over. But I'm also considering framing up the other side of the building and giving the new Burm it's own walk-in enclosure. If it isn't too cost prohibitive, that's what I'm going to do. But if I add a third Burm, I will have to put more than one in a cage. But I'm not there yet.
