Are Beardies afraid of the dark?

ETChipotle Jul 30, 2004 09:05 PM

If I try to hold a 9" beardie in a dark room while I watch TV, he gets skiddish.

Do you spose he thinks it's time to go to sleep and he feels lost? or is he afraid of the dark?

I know they're nocturnal, and his timed light goes out in an hour.

you just said "I know they're nocturnal"....nocturnal means active at night, diurnal is active in the day. I'm going to assume you mean diurnal, because that's what beardies obviously are.

In regards to being skittish, well, he's just a little guy, and sitting with you while you watch TV when it's dark out (signifying the need to sleep). No offense of course. It's normal for most beardies to still be a little weary of the owners even after years of being taken care of by them. The little thing probably was just scared because it was dark, there were noises and light coming out of the TV, and he wasn't in his cage which is probably where he feels most secure.

I assume some of you hold the bearded dragon while you surf the internet or watch TV? And I guess I mean hold them passively, not actively, like having them sit on your shoulder.

I've seen someone at one of the big box pet stores with a sandfire beardie on his shoulder.

Was there a ceiling fan on by any chance? They tend to be scared of them. It's the bird/fan confusion they have. lol
