A Poop Question

BlueMoon Jul 30, 2004 09:22 PM

About how often should a healthy adult Uro poop? Akhenaten normally forgoes food for a day or two right before he poops, but it's been several days now that he's been eating significantly less... but still no poop. Anything I can do for him? Do I just worry too much? At what point is a vet visit in order?

Could be he ingested a little too much accidentally and needs a little time to pass the blockage.I'm not saying this is what it is but it's a possibility.

If you're getting concerned, you can try about a 10 minute soak in very warm (not scalding hot) water about 1/2 inch deep. Be certain he doesn't get water in the nose. Sometimes the water triggers a poop.

If you fear a blockage, I would recommend skipping the soak and go straight to the vet.

Good luck!

Just wondering as to why not get water in the nose? I know you don't purposely get in it but if it happens nothing would happen to the uro-right?

The addiction can be dangerous

If you're very lucky nothing would happen. A friend of mine had a uro die from water that got into the lungs that way. It was icky. So keep the water shallow and don't leave them unattended if you soak them.
