I want to give a big thanks to a Chicagoland area reptiles shop. I purchased a Ball Python on June 11th that was about four months old. They claimed it was captive born and had been eating regularly – though I never witnessed such. The BP never ate for me> I tried for about six weeks with no luck. So, I convinced them that something was not right and they took the snake back.
The BP was a gift form my son and I had to find another, better specimen. This reptile shop is excellent. They had so many BP’s from very young to several years old. They feed about five of them while I was there allowing me to take my pick. Each were very eager eaters. I was able to see the parents as well. There overall knowledge and confidence was outstanding. If I ever buy another reptile or fish, (have 95 gallon freshwater) I will go there - even though it is about 40 miles from my apartment near Evanston, Illinois. The reptile shop is in Orland Park, Illinois near 144th and LaGrange Road – about 25 miles southwest of downtown Chicago.
This BP is very active, very friendly and almost willing to let itself be seen despite having three hide (on the warn side, one on the cool side, and one in the middle). The warm side hide is actually “platform” type water dish so I would think it is quite warm and moist under there.
