Eastern, from that view. Nothing to indicate that its an ornate.

got this gal in a a trade. Look how compressed her shell is. This certainly is no eastern. Its one of the midwestern sub spp.
But which one??

I have more than one eastern in my posession with the same 'compressed' appearance to their shell. Comes with age, evidently, since its most pronouced on the senior citizens in my group. Yours also has a readily apparent vertebral keel, which would indicate that it is not an ornate.

Plastron also looks more like an eastern.

Well Her addy is http://www.geocities.com/alexanderturtles/home.html

Now here is another question for you all. Since we are new to breeding box turtles ( tis my son's project I just over see it)
She said the females are due to lay their eggs in 2 weeks which owould make it this week.

Doe turtles lay their eggs this late in summer? If so what can I be looking for. 1 of the females is always underground and only comes up to eat and go for a swim.

You can IM me on Yahoo: floppitybunnyrabbitry or AIM: floppitybunnies

thank you

Are you new to box turtles or just to breeding them?

The turtle pictured is definately an eastern. And, since your supplier is in WV, and it looks as though they are selling wild-caught box turtles (judging by the price for adults), it makes sense that this is an eastern. She doesn't give much information in the website, does she?

It does seem very late in the year for a box turtle to lay eggs.

You gotta be careful who you deal with on the web. This looks wild caught to me and boxers are not good childrens pets, in my opinion...
