Question about Veileds hatching

Anthonyd Jul 31, 2004 10:36 AM

only one of my veiled eggs has hatched and the reast show no signs of hatching yet. They had already been incubating for 210 days before the first one hatched (Yesterday). I kept the hatchling in the incubator for almost the whole day to try to stimulate the rest of the eggs to hatch, but I finnally took her out with no result. The eggs are not in the incubator anymore, I put them on my dresser, where is it still the right temperature but now there is light. I heard that this could also help stimulate the eggs to hatch. If I have to, how long should I wait until I have to slit the eggs?

Don't put them in the light! BIG NONO!
If you incubated the eggs at around an inch from ewach other, they can and most likely will take mroe than a week between first and last hatchlings. It sometimes takes 1-2 months between the first and last hatchling.

Make sure you wait and make ABSOLUTE SURE before you chuck any "bad" eggs.

just keep waiting and take good care3 of that one hatchling!

I wouldn't worry yet. I also put them in the light once they begin hatching. In the dark, they take a long time between slitting and fully emerging, and in the light they can see and have more reason to hurry out (being in the light during development has been rumored to cause potential problems, but when a nose is poking out, they're not developing anymore). Don't plan on slitting any unless they begin looking bad.... Slitting is an easy way to mess things up, and a premature baby that was cut out and possibly even survived is not a great candidate for sucess either. Just give them time. It seems like usually there's one or two that go early, a few days where you'll have several, then a few days at the end with one or two or none a day. Good luck!
