just got back... black marks on head

skater2337 Jul 31, 2004 02:23 PM

i just got back from a one week trip and my friend was taking good care of my young veiled cham. when i left him he was just starting to get his mature colors. when i got back i noticed 2 symetrical black marks on both sides of the head, starting from the edge of the mouth and running 3-4 scales down. there is also black running up the tips of both crests (not the casque but the crests above the eyes). i will try to post a picture but i dont know if i will be able to. could this be mouth rot? burn? or just new adult coloring? i will watch him closely and look for more signs of mouth rot or other problems. thanks.

It is hard to tell without a pic, but as they are symmetrical it might be coloration. No two chams are exactly alike, but you'll soon see what your chams normal pattern will be. If the areas get larger, you see swelling around the edges of the black, or odd skin peeling there might be an infection, but again without a pic it is hard to tell.
