another point, about making tops for tubs for keeping rats...

nodaksnakelover Jul 31, 2004 03:02 PM

Just before killing off all my rodents I got good at making tops for diff plastic pans. Well, I used one inch by two inch wood for the mouse pans. Would just staple the 1/4 inch hardware onto a wood frame. Well for the rats, that would be too light a wood to use right? Wouldn't they lift on the wire and sneak out, even with a big feed V in the middle full of food? I ended up using two by four inch wood for their frame for one tub, and I think it looks monstrous for a top! Any ideas what you folks use in making your tops would be appreciated. I'm no carpenter! LOL!

1X2 works fine. Just make them a little snug.

After I made this one, I cut the hardware cloth so that it DID NOT wrap over the edge. I saved a lot of my own blood.

We stacked 3 or 4 on top of each other and put a brick on the top one.
