breeding

michiel1981 Jul 31, 2004 05:03 PM

hi

i was wondering like how long it takes from a succesfull mating to start seeing signs of the female being gravid.
my carpet pythons recently had sex for 3 days long which found place 22 days ago and the last few days the female doesnt do anything else then hide in her hidebox but still wants to eat everything that moves and has had quite an apetite after mating.
i havent seen her hide before

greats,

michiel

.....

Behavioral differences are noticed immediatly. The fact that she still eats doesn't mean that much....well....I'm going off of Boa experience here...but anyway, most of my female boas will eat until the last couple of months.

I've never bred carpets, but I would guess she's gravid if.....
1. The female had good fat reserves to produce ova....
2. The female was temperature cycled to initiate the production of ova....
3. You witnessed copulation....
4. The female is hiding and or hugging the heat....

I think carpets deposit their eggs after 45 days or so....make sure there is an appropriate place for her to do that. Replace her water dish with a very small one if she's a first time mom so she doesn't do it in the water dish (it happens). A rubbermaid container with aspen and moss will likely get used for that purpose if it is provided. I hope this helps. You might recruite the advice of Jeff Clark, I know he had some Diamond X Jungle's this year.

Good luck, Chris Olson

yea she is acting really strange and she is hiding soo much and when something enters the cage she pops out to attack it hehe
she bit me a few days ago and it didnt hurt or anything but still. Ill fix her water bowl as soon as my male carpet is out of it since he has been soaking in it for shedding. should shed tomorrow.
