Caimania,

All here lead busy lives, and sometimes it is not sensible to answer all questions posted here. Your question is one of law, not particularly crocodilians. Where can laws be read? On the internet. You need to do some research online and find the laws pertaining to this. This also applies to scientific questions: For basic information on keeping crocodilians, you can simply read earlier posts here and learn exactly where the best pages can be found.

You see, if someone is genuinely passionate about keeping a crocodilian, he'll likely have the passion to search for certain information online, and not just ask others to give all the answers. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the individual to do some research, not that of others, particularly with laws, since not everyone lives in the same area, has the same species of crocodilians (since laws can vary by species), or is a qualified legal expert.

This is a good way to prove to yourself how serious you are about being a responsible owner, as crocodilians require owners/keepers who are well ABOVE average all respects. These animals are not "pets," despite what the pet store proprietor, whose profit-making interests conflict with the caiman's, says to a customer.

Thank you for all your help (yeah right). What do you think I am doigng, I am on the internet researching to find my answers thats why I came here, for help. I am not a child I have been taking care of my caiman for some time now. I have done alot of research this was just another thing I was trying obviously it didn't work. My question was not just about law it was about certain foods too, maybe you people should stop thinking everyone on here is a beginer who doesn't now what he or she is getting into. All I wanted was help, Thank you.

It is most likely because nobody in here really knows. Whose to say that 99% of the posts here are fact? Personally, I would do all the research myself before taking the advice from some people who just feel "cool" to have an alligator and not really be all that educated about alligators. As the previous post propagandized trying to tell you to feel that much more important about doing the research yourself. That tells me that the typical crocidillian owner only has one to either watch them eat (which is fun!), I ask: What is there to do with a "pet" crocodillian? Can you teach them to fetch a ball? lol These things are not pets and are not meant to be pets or held captive. I lucked out to have 2 from the previous owner of my new house. They are in a 5 acre lake enjoying themselves. Thats the ONLY way they should be kept. What do these people say in the posts to keep them in when they reach 10 feet in length? A plastic pool from K-mart, perhaps? lol Ok, now getting to your question. It depends on what state you live in. In Florida you have to have a ranchers license the same holds true in Louisiana, Alabama and Georgia, as well. That includes caimen, crocs. and alligators. The farther north you go the less resrictions there are, if any. As soon as you pass the Mason Dixon line your in "safe" territory from any restrictions!

First of all genious, the poster asked about caimans.

Secondly, if your definition of "pet" is something that will chase a ball, you have narrowed the field to pretty much just dogs. No fish, no hamsters, no birds, and very few cats.

Thirdly, if you are up till 3 in the morning laughing at posts on this forum - you must lead a very sad little life indeed.

Lastly, unless you are Steve Irwin, that handle has been taken.

Caimania,
I live in Maryland and have caiman. It is legal to own them in Maryland. It is illegal to own Alligators and Crocodiles. What type of caiman do you have?
