Just curious, what do you think is the cause of the low fecundity? From your post it seems that the clutches are small and the percentage that actually hatch out seems very low. Has the male sired other clutches that do better, worse, or the same?
I know it's all part of breeding but it sure is frustrating when an egg appears to go through full incubation, has good color, etc. and the hatchling just never pips.

ok...

total good babies from eggs.....total eggs...total duds......

bad causes......

snakes too fat....eggs cannot be fertilized due to sperm not flowing through the oviducts properly..and only the rear ovum actually get fertile........eggs in front never get sperm...it cannot swim through crowded ,fat snake......

cages too small.....female doesn't move around enough...causing ....too much fat...and too lazy a snake..also...no movement means less sperm travel throughout body also........

too inbred...alot of my "morphs" are too pure and have been bred by people too many times to relatives......and or//....have just low fertility problems from the start..(stripes ,bloodreds, etc)

temps too low..snakes on bottom shelves are too cold ...compared to snakes on top shelves.......I use fan and ceramic heater....but it just is not even temp throughout the room.....
(* no I am not using heat tapes....)....

too many snakes....too little time...alot of the second clutches are not bred for...female isn't fertilized second time..and has no sperm left to use...so all second clutches are duds.....I haven't the time...they all lay 2 clutches anyays.I bred about half good for a second batch.....(they are still laying now)...((some laid 3 clutches))

all this adds to my 250 dud eggs......

when I get good eggs..they hatch...mostly.some go bad...maybe totally...30 or less...?......but when they are good they are good...my bad eggs come from duds at the beginning usually..

like I said...500?..600? 700......(I think 600 maybe).... total?// I have to count someday..and 250 duds..?.....probably more....

so....

feed well and not too much...get big cages and less snakes..and use heat tapes if you can?........all I can say.....

less snakes..better $,time,,,and animals........

have fun....JY

(oh yea.low numbers.......I breed all snakes at 2 years old to keep them small...R Zuchowski taught me that years ago....I want small corns...3 foot......and I get 12 (emoryi ) to 28....alot of 15 and 17 numbers.....and yes .at times.....15 to 19 big fat, good eggs that all hatch big babies....usually when I cross morphs)......hets are great at sizes.......
