Red X Snow -

bigcagereptiles Jul 31, 2004 11:41 PM

Just for fun - showing off my female Red X Snow.
The parents of this female are from Dragons By Nature and are Brandons top breeders - Ceasar and Starburst.
Ceasar is a very busy dragon..from what I understand and has a long list of bloodlines. I am taking this Red X Snow and breeding her back to a Blood Dragon for next season.
She has so far had 2 clutches - one with a Orange Sandfire and the second with another Red X Snow from Brandon as well.
I still have a few babies Red X Snows left for sale
Blood Dragon in the incubator and a few Blood/Orange Sandfire X.
For now I have all the ladies separated from the males as they all need a break and I don't like to tax the animals..over and over..its a slow death for sure. So its time for them to kick back with out all the ..harrasment..LOL
Thanks for looking.

Sounds like that Red/snow X red/Snow are brother and sister. Ummm probably not a good practice.

I agree not a good practice but this was a
different bloodline all together.

I reread the my late night post. Correction..the other Red X Snow was paired up with another female Red X Snow that I have had for a few years that I purchased in Southern CA.

The pic below is a bit dark but I also paired a Red X Snow from DBN with Apollo (male - Red Gold hold back) pictured here- he has excellant color and a sunny disposition. He is also been paired up with a Blood Dragon and I am waiting on another clutch from him and her any day now. Currently I am looking for another male baby or juvenile Blood Dragon for next year (or the year after). I have 2 Blood Dragons from different breeders (not DBN) one has that nice brick red coloration the other I got has great color alot of Orange and Red but doesn't look to be a Blood. I'm not sure what he is but I'm thinking if he is the product of a male or female Blood Dragon, it is more of a X. I only breed dragons from different bloodlines to be safe although I have heard the real damage doesn't begin until you hit the 3rd generation. Reptiles commonly inbreed in nature - but when you can avoid it - it is best to. My next purchase will probably be from the Dragon Den as I am really impressed with the linage they provide - although costly.
The babies this year are looking really nice so far.
Thanks Steve!

Who is this that you heard from that damage doesnt happen until 3rd generation? Comparing inbreeding in the wild to in captivity with dragons is comparing apples and oranges. Any inbreeding to the current beardeds available here is a step in the wrong direction, IMHO, and posting such info like inbreeding beardeds isnt harmful till 3rd gen is just poor advice and info for others to read. Because one person reads it, and another, and another.........then its passed on to others as their advice.

It's so hard to even know if you have unrelated dragons when buying from completely different sources so to go 3 generations on inbreeding could actually be like going 4,5,6 or who knows.

I TOTALLY agree with what your saying and realized to late it may have been taken wrong by people reading it. It was a conversation I had with someone that was working with snakes not Beardeds and it was in passing - he didn't do this practice eather. I don't inbreed my dragons or any other reptiles and yes I TOTALLY AGREE it is a BAD thing to do.
Sorry I mentioned it.
Have a good one.

Sure looks like you said you bred a Red/Snow X Red/Snow both from DBN. Maybe a Freudian slip!! Nice cover though but I would read a little farther down about the guy who bred the Father to the daughter and asked why he had dragons with Curly pigtails. He was kind of crucified so I would watch those Freudian slips they can cause problems sometimes.
