Live pray vs. Frozen

Singular May 14, 2003 02:08 PM

Forgive me if this topic has been done to death, but it's my first post. I feed her one live common white mouse a day, sometimes two. She doesn't really care for anything else. Eggs, Turkey, cat food, rice, pasta, she just doens't dig anyhthing that doesn't move in front of her. Getting mice is no problem for me since I work part time at a retail pet store and the cost of frozen is almost exactly the same. I notice that several people mention the cruelty which is a non-factor to me. I am more interested in the health aspects of feeding. The mice we get are bred in a controlled environment so I don't really think there is a high risk of parasites. I also noticed people saying that live pray can fight back, and my question to them is what kind of monitor do you have that can't kill a little mouse? Doctor Strangelove (That's her name) rarely gives the mouse time to mount any kind of defense before crushing it's skull and slurping it down. I am willing to change her diet up a bit, but I think I'll stick to live pray until I can see reason to do otherwise. Anyone know how to get them ajusted to a good variety of foods?

The older the harder it will be too get them used too other kinds of food read the post i made on the ackie who doesnt eat anything but crickets,

concerning your point about the dangers of live feeding, there is a danger that the mice will bite your monitor, mice have quite powerfull jaws with shapr teeth, if you monitor doenst get the mouse at once by teh head there is a danger it might bite your monitor, not matter how strong your monitor is, you simply cant rule out the change of that happening.

i dont think there is much quality difference in a death or life mouse as long as it was healty when it was killed. and hasnt been in the freezer for years,

those are my opions,

i feed mostly live prey because it stimulates their hunting activities and mine are more interrested in live prey

take care danny
