A question about het for albino boas.

spottedturtleman Aug 01, 2004 10:45 AM

I am new to this forum so I am sorry if is question has already been addressed. I am looking for a pair of hets .I was told that they need to be from different parents so the the genetics are not the same. What would happen in I bred hets from the same parents? I have bred my albino redears that are related without problems so that is why I am curious.
Thanks in advance
Tom

Well you could inbreed but if the parents the sibs are inbred also you are looking at a weakening of the gene pool. There were some albino babies for sale that had only one eye that could be in part to several years of inbreeding. I would suggest getting unrelated pairs, even though the gene started out with inbreeding your chances of a stronger lineage are with indirectly unrelated babies.

Hope that answered your Q.
