I'm BACK! ....With 2 more Q's about Tobias!

shopunke Aug 01, 2004 10:55 AM

Alrighty! Question number one. Would it be okay to keep Tobias on a diet containing primarily mealworms? See, I get crickets and the mealworms (Since I have 3 Cuban Tree Frogs as well) and I noticed something. HE LOVES THOSE WORMY BUGGERS! He's such a lazy boy... he doesn't like chasing those crickets. Usually he only ends up with a mouthful of dirt! But when I give him 3 or 4 mealworms (sparingly), they're gone within seconds. I think it's because the mealworms are cold, which causes them to move slower, and he's able to slurp them up like uncooked spaghetti. So, yes, the question. Would it be okay to keep Tobias on a diet containing primarily mealworms?

Sorry, that was a long one. But here's another. :D I have a 30 watt heat lamp, along with his UVB tank light. Now, when using both, they tend to bump into each other, so I have to slide the light farther back on the tank lid so the heat lamp can hang properly. But I've noticed that Tobias seems to prefer it without the heat lamp, and the UVB right in the middle so the entire tank is lit up! He reacts more and doesn't act so sleepy. (My friend's swear he's a Narcoleptic(?)) So, question! Would it be alright to exclude the heat lamp?

Thanks for your help!

Hi, GLAD your back LOL Anyway, I know you have mealies because of your froggies, but mealies have what they call alot of chitin in their shell, kinda harder to digest.

Superworms are actually better , you can check it out. And you dont have to keep them refridgerated either, they last a long time, just fed well. My collareds love them.
And I also have froggies, redeyes and greentree frogs and they can both eat the bigger superworm with no problems. Just a thought since he likes worms so much.

I also have a few who prefer the worms, so I fed my supers real well, greens fruits, cereals just like ya gut load crickets, so they are more nutritional.

And You have to have a basking light, they need a spot to sit and bask that reaches 100 - 105 somtimes 110 by afternoon)

This enables then to eat and be able to digest their food properly also. If you eliminate the basking, you can not acheive those temps !

Have to figure a way to make them fit,

Hey where Tobia's pics, hehehhehe !

Alrighty! I made it fit... It's just not warm anymore. Odd, huh? I'm gonna try out the house-light like you suggested, if he doesn't get more active soon.

As for superworms, I know of NO pet store around here that sells them. And, as you know from our e-mails earlier, money is tight so I can't order off the internet.

Eve, I really, REALLY appreciate your help. You're a wonderful person for helping all of us new lizard owners. *hugs*

Do you happen to remember me posting pictures of his bent finger with the large black mass? Well, if so, I just thought I let you know that it isn't going away, and we think it's an infection. Sigh.

Thanks again!

Once again, I'll have to post the picture as a link, and as an image, since... well, I can't quite get the hang of images yet. *blush* Would you mind telling me what you think?

You have pics on your computer in a file, but it seems your having a hard time tring to link, why not open a free account here at Photo galley, then you can put pics in gallery and post them here very easy !

Heres what you do if you are interested
***************************************

POSTING PICTURES ON GALLERY INSTRUCTIONS

It is easy once you have them on your computer, you go here and register for photo Gallery space (each Kingsnake member gets FREE pic space.

http://gallery.pethobbyist.com/index.pl

When your there, Register up top, where it says free, later if you want more space you can choose a different account.

give your info, then it will tell you what to do. You pick a catagory such as collareds, and then , hit the "Browse "

This will retreive your picture, from your files on your
computer.

Now that your picture is in Photo Gallery, come back here, and under this text box, you will see:
Select Image from Photo Gallery, click the little arrow on the right and (Your picture should be here.)

And we will all see it !

Does look infected, weird place, as its not a nail or toe. Black is not good, Were you soaking it or putting antibiotic on it?

I can't really give advice on that, dont know why he has it. That would probably have to be seen by a Vet.

I know things are tight right now, (we are know that feeling) but you also dont want that to spread up his leg. His foot already looks swollen to me in pic!

I think antother forum buddy awhile okay had a male named Albert with infections like that it just got worse. Think it was Girliegirl's collared.

Hate to bum ya out but I just dont know. Maybe somebody else can give some advice! Hope his foot gets Better soon :0(

..because it hasn't spread or showed on any other area's of his body. Just that toe. The black will sometime peel off, exposing partially-raw skin, which is covered by black again the next day. I'll have to take a look at his foot, I never noticed the swelling, just around the toe...

If I were to treat it with an antibiotic what should I use? How should I do it? I'm going to run off right now and talk to my parents about taking him to a vet. Eve, or anyone, if you read this, would you mind starting a new thread? This one's getting awfully long and I don't notice the replies till much later. =/ Thanks guys.
