Switching to rabbits an Feeding changes!

Hypoboa1 Aug 01, 2004 12:08 PM

I have two females that I am going to TRY an breed this season! So friday I tried to do the switch from rats to rabbits, with my 7 ft female! She wanted nothing to do with it,She acted as if she was afraid of it,going to it an jerking back from it!So instead of letting her stress herself out over it,I took it out an gave her two large rats instead! The rabbit weighed about or around 4 to 5 lbs a medium size one!It was prekilled an I thought it was somthing that my abberant female could handle at a bit over 6 ft long, well she nailed it with no problems it took her a little bit but the rabbit was a bit to big for her its been 2 days with no regurge an I wont bother her for another 3 or 4 days to be safe other than changing water an misting real good a couple times a day!I know that next feeding time to get a smaller rabbit,But with eating a meal that size when should next feeding time be? Beleive me I know that I messed up on size,an what size to get her next time,Should I wait 3 weeks before feeding her again? An when I do get her back on a schedule,How often should I feed now that shes on rabbits instead of rats? Thanks ahead of time for any help!Eric[Hypoboa]

For a good two weeks. Maybe more depending on how she looked.

I've switched boas from rats to rabbits, I started by getting rabbits just slightly larger than the rats I was feeding them. I would offer 1 rabbit a week. Then slowley started increasing the size of the rabbits. Unless you have a stady supply of rabbits I would order frozzen jumbo rats, Then instead of 1 give them 2 and move up from there. / I purchased a 8ft. female that was eating 5lb. rabbits, I can no longer get rabbits on a steady supply so she eats about 8 large rats at a time and would probaly take more if she could. Have fun and good luck.
