Breeding 66% het boa to a ?????

beardedboy Aug 01, 2004 12:44 PM

I have a young male Boa who is 66% Het for Albinism Original (Peter Kahl) strain. I was wondering If in order to produce Albino offspring...

1. Do i have to mate him with a het or albino female from the original strain or can I mate him with something like a coral albino or sharp albino?

You can pair him up with a het kahl strain or a albino kahl strain or coral albino(still kahl strain). The sharp and kahl strain are not compatible. Hope this helps

It must be with the original strain. The sharp and kahl strains are not compatable. They block the production of melanin in different ways. If you bred an kahl albino to a sharp albino you would end up with all normal looking babies DH for both strains.

I may be wrong, but I think the coral albino may be a variation of the kahl strain. You would still get albino's, but they may not have the high red that a coral albino would have.

I know that breeding these strains together produces animals that are het for each trait.. it must have been done before to prove this. So has anyone every bred the dh Sharp/Kahls together, producing a Sharp/Kahl Albino? One strain would likely mask the other? No real benifit probably. Thoughts?
Thanks all-
