Anaconda Question

chogirl27 Aug 01, 2004 01:32 PM

Hi everyone,

I have a question, my friend had a retic and the growth on her was amazing (boy could she grow). Well I know Anaconda's are the largest (heaviest) snake in the world, but what's their growth like in terms of speed? Do they have gigantic growth spurts or do they grow slowly? I always hear of retics hitting the 15-18' foot range easy, but never hear alot of anaconda's that big. Sorry for the stupid question, but I'm interested in maybe purchasing one in the future (with alot of pre-research of course). THANKS ALOT GUYS.

Annie is almost 8 months old now and over 5 feet long. they get about 10 feet in two years. after that they slow down. anacondas can reach up to 25 feet and 4-500 pounds but that is a really big snake.

growth rate is slower than the retic especially with length as the retic seems to add length quickly. They still get pretty big rather quickly, I would not call them a slow grower...id just call those pythons really fast growers. All of your female green anacondas will reach 15-18 easily in time. They are very very long snakes as well. Not just heavy. There is little difference in length from the retic to the green anaconda females...it just seems that retics hit a little higher on more of an average basis...but this is still only a few feet. Big snake...I recomend a male.

Also, you dont see as many over 15 ft because not as many people have green anacondas as they are very new to captive breeding.
