alligator snapper inquiry

davidd Jun 23, 2003 03:12 AM

First of all, let me get the laws strait.. it's still legal to own an alligator snapping turtle in Florida right? It's always been one of my favorite turtles and now I have the space and time to actually take care of one! Also, who are the good breeders/producers of alligator snappers? I live in north florida(almost on the border), so somewhere in georgia or another nearby state would be nice(i'd like to go in person to check out their snappers). Thanks for any info you can provide.

Dave

You can only have one in Florida and it has to be purchased out of state. Georgia prohibits their sale even more so than in FL. The best two dealers I know of are www.turtleman.com and www.turtlesellers.com
