Possible worm-infection, please help

Malicia Aug 01, 2004 02:10 PM

My 0.1 Aru GTP (5 yrs old) passed something which looks like worms today. She seems to have dihorrea, she only passed a lot of "brown water", some very small lumps of urine, and two worm-looking things with what appears to be a sac on the end of each. The worms were about 2 inches in length, the sacs were 1/2 an inch in length, and somewhat narrower in width. (unfortunately, I do not have a picture of the feces)

She has been a reluctant eater for the last 1 1/2 years, and the last year she has started to regurgitate rat nr.2 after she is half-done eating it. There has been a lot of "striking and letting go" in this time period, and she has not put on much weight.

Last night she reluctantly accepted a rat after several tries ( i always feed fresh killed or defrosted), but regurged it when she came to the hind legs. Prior to this, she had refused food for more than 2 months, and spent a good deal of the time on the cage floor. The rat offered was of appropriate size.

Today, after releasing the dihorrea and worms (?) she seems flighty, hungry(?) and slightly agressive.

It seems to me that she has intestinal worms, but I do not know where she got it from. She is CB, and has never had any shots or received medicinal treatment of any kind.

Please tell me what I can do to help my girl back to health, advice on which medicines to use would also be greatly appreciated.

I would hate to see her suffer any further.

Thank you;

Malicia

Hello Malicia,

I feel bad for your snake. Seems like she has gone through a lot. I just went through deworming my three gtp's. The vet said that sometimes the mice/rats that we feed them may carry parasites that transfer to the snake. The way I found out was by taken a stool sample to the vet which they analyzed. They told me to get it as soon as I see it and freeze it until I took it over (the quicker the better). Your snake is obviously in discomfort. You should take her over to the veterinarian as soon as you can. The deworming wasn't too expensive.
Good Luck

Rafael
