Pick it up anyway. If I have someone that doesn't want to come out I coax it to the corner, and then it has nowhere to go except on my hand. Watch out for jumpers too... I'd swear leos try to commit suicide by jumping off at the worst time.

Yea, what the other guy said. One of my leopards didn't like to be held at first but after earning it's trust after a few holds, it's calmed down and no longer feels the need to jump away when it has a chance. You really should hold it a couple to three times a week. This is not obsessive nor neglecting. At least from what I've found so far.

Leo gecko bites don't hurt near as bad as fat-tail, tokay, or blue-tongue skink bites. Try scooping it up...animals fear for their lives and/or attack to defend themselves when something comes from the top or above them. If you try to scoop it up, it comes from below it and it won't fear as much. Also, take a little time to just touch/petting him inside the cage. This will also earn its trust. I have a blizzard that always bites...but usually after showing that I mean no harm, she calms down. Also search google, etc. on proper techniques for holding lizards. I know that in either the Lizard Keeper's Handbook by Vosjoli or the Care Of Reptiles & Amphibians in Captivity book by Chris Mattison, it shows proper techniques. If the internet fails, try the local library on these books.

Scaring it into a box would be the woorst thing you could do. Ever thought of using gloves? A soft glove that wouldn't hurt your leo or one that it could get it's claws stuck into. Have a holding cage ready, then carefully scoop your gecko up.
This way, you can transport your gecko without fear of being bit, and without stressing it too much.
Good luck.

Corralling your leo into a box isnt' a bad idea, i do it with my really young ones. Its actually less stressful than being gripped against their will.

easiest way to do this is to position the box/container right in front and just move it closer slowly untill it walks in the box/container on its own.

Another tip is NOT to be afraid. Don't panick, like other said, it DOES not hurt, they have no teeth. talk to the leo and get it used to you. If you're calm you won't scare the leo either.

good luck
