probelm with pacman frog

CDP75 Aug 01, 2004 06:59 PM

I've had frogs before and have 2 ACF's right now but I wanted another frog. I decided to get a Pacman frog about 3 weeks ago. I named her Ziggy....I'm not sure if it's a girl.

I have Ziggy in a 10 gal tank with wet peat moss on one side and some other moss(from Petsmart) on the other side. There's a shallow water dish in the middle of the tank and some plants that I read were safe to use.
I was having a probelm keeping the humidity up but I bought this mister thing and it works great. Plus, I wrapped half the lid in plastic wrap. Ziggy seems quite content and actually moves around more than I thought she would.
What concerns me is she has only ate two crickets. That seems odd to me b/c the frogs I had before ate more than that.
I guess, what I'm asking is, how often should this frogs eat?

As long as the frog is not losing weight rapidly, I don't see a problem. Try different feeder items to see what it will take. Try nightcrawlers, crickets, superworms, wax worms, or any other inverts you can get ahold of (even ones from outside assuming no toxic agents are used in the area). It sounds like your humidity might be a little high as well. I know some books say "75 to 80%" humidity but consider that the more popular species originate in an area with llanos, plains that are sometimes dry for much of the year. I normally keep my frogs at around 30-50% humidity, which is a lot lower but will also reduce bacteria/mold/gnat growth.

She hasn't lost any weight and thanks for making me not worry too much.
I've tried nightcrawlers and other things and she's not interested in them.
I was at Petsmart tonight getting salt and saw these crickets in a can. I got a can to try. She gobbled it down. Are those ok to feed?
Thanks again for your help.

Pacman frogs will also eat fish. Sometimes the pet stores will feed them mainly fish because it's easier in their set up. THese frogs then become use to eating fish. Just another option you can try

I've tried fish and no luck. I've had this frog for a little over a month now and it's only eaten 2 live crickets and 2 from a can. It's not loosing weight and I keep reading how much they like to eat but mine barely does. It doesn't seem normal to me and I don't know what the problem is.
