pix not detail enough. the specimen look like a prolific species in south east asia. all i can say is that the specimen look like either a keelback, a wolf snake or even indo chinese rat snake. however, i may be wrong. there4 pls update the pix with better quality.
tips: try and take his pix from the side and above. don't let him curl like a battered roti canai.
Dude i dont know where u live in malaysia. But if u go to pet safari in KL, you'll find tons of snakes...Corn, milk, kings, burmese, ammerith, boas, retic and more.
You will also find varieties of tarantulas, iguanas, lizzards, tegus, tortoises, caimans, and etc.
In fact, whatever you want, they have it or will at least look for it
So much for Tak Boleh ...
I was merely stating the fact that its possible to find reptiles in Malaysia.
Im not sure about the quality of the reptiles at Pet Safari, therefore i cant comment on that. Although cages individually, most of the reptiles there seems to be lacking of hiding spots.
But i agree that most traders will do ANYTHING to sell. Hence the reason im here looking for other alternatives.
So much for Tak Boleh ^^.
I live in Indo, and herping is not bad. No societies, but lots of enthusiast. U can find a whole lotta things here, eventhough i could only find 3-4 shops in Jkt. U can also find (& catch) "Bunglon"
Borneo bloodsucker, Calotes christatellus). U can find leopard torts, sulcata, burmese mountain, redfoots, softshells, pig nose, Tribbies, golden skinks, BTS, and even matas! Leopard geckos as well. A paternless is the same price as a mata2 (both quite expensive though).
Feeders are only frogs, fish, shrimp, daphnia, meallies, earthworms, crix, centipedes, tubifex, & ants. (most are for birds & fish)
Hey,
That's a Common Wolf Snake you got there. I've caught one before too.
Some info:
The Common Wolf Snake is pretty timid but if you agitate it it might attempt to bite. Its non-venomous and nocturnal. Can sometimes be found around houses hunting for geckos.
If you're planning on keeping and can't catch geckos for it to eat then you can try feeder crickets or feeder frogs which can be found in most any aquarium. They sell them as food for large carnivorous fish like arowana.
feeder crickets?! you can't keep a common wolf snake on crix. geckos are still your best bet, as the frogs sold in fish shops often carry parasites. if you can't give it a proper diet, perhaps it might be best to release it.
really? i've kept a couple of common wolf snakes before and both took feeder crickets quite readily. they didn't touch geckos that i put in though...although that may be due to the fact that i couldn't catch small geckos and the ones i did catch might have been too large...
Maybe i just caught weird individuals...heh...
yeap its a common wolf snake...pertaining to its eating habits its generally a lizard eater..but thats a general picture...some individuals might take to cricks...frogs i'm sure wouldn't be a problem too..cause i know how hard it can be to get a constant supply of cicaks (geckos) hehe
goodluck with your snake mate...good catch too..i always thought spore was quite devoid of wild snakes lol!
hehe maybe... but they will do best on a diet of lizards.
though i can't imagine why anyone would want to keep them as a permanent captive. it's difficult to source for food and they aren't exactly the most handleable of snakes... move like lightning and really nippy.
