Strange stuff on his Shell

protium Jun 23, 2003 07:33 AM

This is my Soft shelled turtle. He was only about 1 1/2 inches long when I found him in a local drainage tunnel. I Have a Res so I figured I could just devied his pond. He has gotten some strange black and gray marks on his shell.Does anyone know what is is? Is it bad for him? How do I get it off of him? I am going to try and post this photo but I not sure it will work.

sounds like your turtle is likely a female. females develope a mottled pattern of blotches in different colors like grey, tan, brown, olive, .... dont worry, and definatly dont try and remove the blotches, they are perfectly natural for a female, "coming of age". do try and get a pic up though
