I posted this in the main python forum, and realized posting here would probably reach a slightly more specialist crowd.
Hello everyone. I am soon going to acquire 1.1 adult striped Centralians, and was just curious if any members of the forum that currently keep them or have kept them in the past could offer me any good words. I have kept carpet pythons before, everything from neonates, to subadults, to large adults, so I am somewhat familiar with the care of the more terrestrial Morelia (I have kept scrubs as well). I'm just basically looking for any helpful tips, such as how best to keep their feeding responce manageable (I've read recently about how 'excitable' they can be...but then again, I have retics), how to notice, when handling, when they are telling you they no longer want to be handled, etc. Just basically I'm looking for anything that might help me make their quality of life just a little better. And, of course, I certainly wouldn't mind any breeding tips. I've been told they are basically the same as carpet pythons, so they are basically, pretty basic, hah! But things like, do they rely more on light cycling than temps, is it best to keep them together during the cycle period or apart, fast them during or feed heavily (for the female anyway), or feed lightly for that matter, etc? Also, with Lazik's line of stripes, what would I expect in any given clutch from a mating of two striped parents?
I look forward to reading everyone's replies. I'm anxiously anticipating these guys' arrival mid this week, and have their Visions all ready to go for them. They are actually replacing my last pair of venomous snakes, but I'm not too upset over the move out of that section of the hobby. Python people seem to get along better anyway...lol. Anyway, thanks for reading!
