Hi; I'm new to the forum (although I've been reading it for awhile) and just got a baby western hog...although I knew they could be problematic feeders, I didn't think it would happen to me...sigh...Anyway, I've had the baby for a little over a week now and have offered him frozen/thawed pinkies three times--every time he will seize the pinkie, start to swallow it butt first, get to the head, stop, and then spit it out...I don't think the pinkies are too big (they're standard mouse pinkies)..Just in case, I did get some smaller pinks, but he's shown no interest..I have tried cupping him with the pinkies, and even scenting one of them with tuna water...nothing..

Any suggestions? Thanks so much for any help...

if you have had only had him for a week, try letting him settle in. dont try and feed him for another week or so.

I agree. Hey may very well be stressed about you watching him. I have had snakes begin to eat and then see me and spit it out. If the pink isnt much bigger than his body, it isnt too big. Let him relax, and get used to his surroundings for a week (he will be fine, believe me...) and then try to feed him. He may also need to be fed in the dark, if he is a shy eater. good luck.
