Do beardies get lonely?

Amk2109 Jun 23, 2003 08:52 AM

This may seem like a really stupid question but we are getting ready to move to a new house and there is no longer going to be room for our beardies in our living room by a window and I will have to be put in two spare bedrooms if they want window views. I guess I am a little over sensitive and my husband makes fun of me but I am afraid if they are put in these other rooms they will get lonely because right now they can see me all the time. I get them out all the time and let them roam around the house and they get to go outside in the summer months when it is really warm. They right now all have a window and they love to look outside and in the living room so I guess my question is---do you think that they would rather be in the living room without a window or in the spare bedrooms with a window? This may seem really stupid but I don't want them to be bored or sad?

Not a stupid question. Actually in the wild people very rarely see two beardies in the same area, most of the time except for breeding season they are territorial. As for captive beardies I notice that they are very interested in what goes on around them. I always notice them watching me do the normal living things. I look up and see 4 beardies staring at me.Lol. I think they would like the place where they would see the most action, and get the most interaction from you. Don't think if you don't change your routine with handling them and letting them out like you do now it will affect them one way or the other. Good Luck with the move.

Not a crazy question. But, I do think they can get lonely. I have two girls together and when one of them is gone, the other one won't eat, sleeps all day, etc. As soon as the big girl comes back in the tank she's running around, back to eating, etc. So, who knows? That's just my observation.

I think if they are used to being with another beardie, and the beardie leaves, they are affected. Whether it is really lonliness or the fact that they don't like change is the question.
Mine are all seperate, and they are never happy to even see another beardie (unless it's to mate), let alone live with them...
Just one of those things that make ya go "Hmmmmmmmm"
