Baby Beardies Won't eat

charky2002 Aug 02, 2004 02:27 PM

I have a few baby beardies here that barely eat, they might eat 1 (maybe 2) crickets per feeding but thats all. They are smaller then the other ones in the batch that are eating properly and i'm getting worried so does anyone have any tips on getting them to eat. I already tried different foods, and feeding them separatly but i'm not having alot of luck. Any advice would be great, thanks in advance.

First take them out of the group. They are most likely intimidated by the others. Even if you take them out to feed separately, they don't understand that the others aren't going to jump on them & take the food.
Another step would be to increase the heat a tad. (depending on what it's at now.) If the ambient temp is 80, move it up to 83-85, & get a basking point of 110 - 115. Also, get a blue or red night heat bulb. Keep them good & warm for a while.

One more thing to try would be to get some Vit. B on the crickets. If they are only eating a few of them, just make sure one or two are well covered with Vit. B (for each of them). That should help increase their appetite.

Good luck.

hi,
i agree with the other responces, but if that doesnt work you might try hand feeding once to kick start them. I mix pedialite,
powdered repcal, vitamins, and a touch of meat baby food into a thick soup. It always seems to get thier apitite going.

good luck,
betty
