Last time I went to snake road in the summer, the mosquitos were insane, and the snakes were no where to be found. If you head down to Missouri, you should be able to find some collared lizards on some cedar glades. Look for the southwest facing glades that have nice clearing of trees. If you can find some rock quarries in the area, that is also a great place to look for collareds.

I herped the backside of a rock quarry in Rolla, Mo several years ago, and found numerous collareds...the weren't the best looking lizards, but they were numberous...also seen lots of five lined skinks and fence swifts.

do you have directions to the rock quarry? is it avaiable for people to go to?

you can probably get permission from a landowner near by to herp some farm land. There is some nice glades in the area. I was there in late September/early October one year, and found some adult lizards, and several lizards that were just a few weeks old.

Here is a link to the lizards in the area. This site belongs to Chris McMartin.

Missouri collareds

another rock quarry ( defininte permission ) if one can get up to it is the Bairds Mountain west of Branson. Haven't been there for decades but was one heck of a collared establishment place. This semi-famous quarry was opened to build the Table Rock Dam project. It can be seen leaving the Gov. fish hatchery before and below the dam heading south across the dam. Some of us use to repel off of the cliffs to give you an idea how big this place was. Repeling and lizard hunting at the same place. What fun !
