Crested on the loose

momtowildones Aug 02, 2004 04:34 PM

Any thoughts on how to capture/find a crested gecko that has escaped. We were gone for the weekend and one of my cresteds got out when the person that was feeding thm left the door to the cage open. I have looked everywhere and am starting to fear the worst. Any ideas on enticements to lure her out of hiding?

haha they should make a thread that stays on top around here named "how to recover escapees!" its pretty simple, just put yourself in the position of your gecko. first and foremost, remember that these guys are nocturnal. so as long as the room is lit, youre not likely to find him/her. so turn out the lights and keep it as dark as possible wherever you think it may be. one thing that i tried out was putting around some potted plants and stuff that would make good hides, but those didnt actually work for me. chances are its not far from its cage, so just keep lights low and check around often. im guessing it will come out more the hungrier it gets. good luck!

My female Crested escaped the day after I brought her home. I tore the snake room apart looking for her, with no success. I ended up finding her in the window..I keep the window open with the screen down..she was all the way in the top of the window between the storm window and casement...a tight squeeze, but I was able to get her.

Good luck!
