Please help with bulb problem!!!!!!

khandof Aug 02, 2004 06:52 PM

I have a problem. I bought two 160 watt Power Sun bulbs month ago and only used them for only a week because they where too hot. Is there somewhere I can post them to sell them, trade them, or even find cheap 100 watt Power Sun or UV Active Heat bulbs?

Hey just buy your self a thermostat that can withstand 160w or more.

Merc. Vap. bulbs are not made for constant on / off activity like that. It will be burnt out before you know it.

There is a thread just a few posts down about a new bulb, you might want to check it out.

I wish I it were that easy, but these bulbs have a built in overheat protection mechanism that will not permit the bulb to restart for up to 15 minutes. In other words if you turn the bulb off after it has been turned on it will not come on again until the switch resets itself which could take up to 15 minutes. I bought dimmmers to put on the lights, but as soon as you try to dimm the lights it shuts down and will not come back on if the dimmer is not at maximal wattage. I think these light need to operate at 160 watts all the time.

so the fact these had a protective screen was realy nice and different.

Also that these MVB could be that distance from the dragons and still have a excellent UVB output, tubes you have to have within 6 inches of the dragons to get that and other MV have to be 12 inches.... which can sometimes be too close and put the dragons at risk of burning themselves on them, plus the burnout issues.
