About Tobias foot, if the black is coming off >

PHEve Aug 02, 2004 07:01 PM

And you are see flesh every few days, then the black may just be a scab, Amanda. I thought you said earlier that it stayed black and has been that way a long time.

Sounds now, like a scab. Maybe he cut it on something? Or got it stuck and scraped it?

What do you have in the way of first aid stuff in the house?
I would clean it and then put neosporin or an antibiotic ointment on it.

Try it for a few days, see if anything improves, if not take him to a Vet.

That Drift wood piece you showed me in the pic, is there any sharp areas on that? Sometimes they are held together with screws.

Also if your going to put the ointment on, ya may want to cover the sand . Instead of dumping, if I have to put ointment on anybody, I just put a layer of paper towel over the sand a few days, so the sand dont irritate and get into sore.

I'm not real sure what that is Amanda, I'm just going on what you said that the black lifts off, and under is flesh.

Funny thing is, Eve, the black just kept getting bigger so the "scab" theory left my head. But just this morning, no less than five minutes ago, I went to give him his morning kiss() and it looked like some dirt was on his wound. So, I very gently wiped it off, and viola. The black came off again. Last time it was very scabby feeling, today it was soft. Probably because he slept under his water dish. ANYWAY! My point: You're probably right, it is a scab. I witnessed some white-looking somewhat-healed flesh along with red, raw flesh. *Sigh* I ran some water over it, told my mom "I'm going to see what the people on kingsnake have to say about ointments"... and here I am.

We don't have much for first aid around here. BUT! We are going to petsmart today to get him a 20 gallon long tank, thermometers, and a 75 watt heating bulb. I tried the 75 watt regular house bulb like you suggested, and he LOVED it! He was so warm within seconds, and much more active.

I think I'm finally going to get this little guy on the right track. Maybe after having the proper environment and tank size, he'll stop being so stressed and stop his constant jumping... Then maybe his finger will heal up. One can only hope.

Oh. I meant to ask you. Is there an antibiotic I can pick up at petsmart? If I don't see a reply by the time I read this, I'll ask the Small Animal Department manager. He's good with lizards and maybe could help me out.

Thanks for all your time and support!
Hugs to all of you!

Yeah, just put antibiotic on it ( use neosporin, or a generic brand, like triple antibiotic ointment, for people) it works well for small cuts, sores and burns.) Can get it at a grocery store or drugstore, kmart, anywhere.

Also great your picking him up a nice bigger tank , I'm sure he will love it.

Hey, if your getting a bigger tank, you can probably get a 100 watt bulb now. He will love the heat! Glad the higher regular house bulb worked out for you !

Good luck to you and Tobia, thanks for the HUGS, and More back at ya, LOL Keep in touch !!

If we can pick up some of those ountments on our way home.

I honestly can't stress enough how much you've helped!

When his new tank is all set up, I will post a pic or two. And great, I'll deffinitely go with the 100 watt.
