At what age do chameleons shed?

roadracer Aug 02, 2004 08:40 PM

I have a male panther cham and he's about 3 months old, pretty tiny still. The last few days I've noticed him starting to get more and more little white patches all over, I'm hoping this is what shedding looks like but as this is my first chameleon I'm not sure. I'll try to take a decent picture of him but he's a bit camera shy and since he's new and still getting used to his new home I don't like to bother him too much. Thanks for any tips.

It isn't at what age, rather how often do chameleons shed. Juveniles can shed anywhere from every 2 weeks to every month. Adults shed every 6 weeks to 8 weeks (sometimes 9 or 10 weeks). Make sure you spray him with hot water directly on his skin, this stimulates skin shedding as the skin doesn't stick to the underlayer as much if it's mroe supple.

They shed in response to growth rate. Faster growth more frequent shedding.
