Rough Evening...Premie from 7/2/04 Litter Didn't Make It...Need Advice for Future (more)

JJsBoas Aug 03, 2004 01:29 AM

Well this was the only Premie, with a big 'ole belly still full of yolk, that I got from my very first litter (total of 25 babies) that dropped at the beginning of July. I was a little unclear as to how to care for the little guy, so I put the lil one in the rack with the rest of his/her brothers and sisters. The temps ranged from 82-90 degrees (morning lo - daytime hi) and I am assuming the humidity stayed at an acceptable level since everybody shed without any problems.

I would just like to know what else, or what should I have done to try to help this guy pull through. I tried to keep this Premie's stress level to a minimum by not bothering him too much except to change his water and newspaper. I would just like to know what I should have done for future reference in case I need to care for a whole litter of premies, should that ever happen. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

And despite this bummer, I should still be happy that I do still have 12 month old normals and 12 month old hypos that are healthy and doing great. Thanks for taking the time and I hope some of you can share your experiences and share some info that may help me and others.

All the best and good luck to everyone with their remaining litters...

Jay
