This snake was recently collected and photographed, I know exactly where it originated.. it is morphologically similar to animals from the same general area but that orange head and a few other features set it apart..
Any guesses?

I went to Costa Rica last year and although we did not find any live Boas, we did come accross several DORs and they were much lighter then that fella there and more clean in pattern, They looked very similar to the Honduran Boas. so Although I don't see the shine that normally comes with a Mexican boa in this guy, I will go with Southern Mexico....

I have a photo here somewhere (looking for it now) sent to me by a friend doing fieldwork in Costa Rica two years ago of him posing with a 7' boa, heavy bodied and more black than this one pictured above, but without the orange head..
We tend to decide (I'm guilty of this too) on what a boa from a particular place looks like from a small sample that we encounter or see for sale or whatever.. right now people are convinced that Costa Rica boas are smallish and somewhat colorful, those have been the focus of recent imports. That notion will prevail until someone shows us another phase.
But Hoppy is getting warm!

Gus,
My guess is Nicaragua. The pattern looks tight and busy like some that have recently been imported from there. This really is a tough game guessing where Boas come from. When I was in Panama I caught Boas that were highly variable in color from the same area.

Hi Gus....I'm going to say Belize ?.....we found some down there last fall that were almost as dark as the "notorious" dark Mexicans that, not long ago, most people didn't want to buy.....we saw some that heads that were pretty light but not as orange.....how far off am I ?......Ron....La Finca Boa....
Looks like a nicaraguan to me

That is an adult female boa, about 1.5 meters in length found last week at over 1200M in altitude in the mountains south west of Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico.
Thanks everybody for playing the game.. and a special thanks to the few people who knew the answer but didn't spoil it for everybody else.
