Why are they trying to ban reptiles?

Because some idiots don't know how to properly contain their animals. Anybody selling a reptile really needs to make sure it is going to a responsible person, nomatter what type of reptile it is.

I signed, but how are they going to enforce it anyway? Are they going to go into every house to check what kind of animals you have?

and on the news today a big dog attacked and almost killed a baby in a home. You don't see people trying to ban large dogs but snakes, Of course they have to ban those.
How about banning cars people get killed by those too or airplanes. More people get killed in those than get killed by balled pythons.

I am so upset that this could happen. I love my snakes, and if they were made illegal, that would taint everything and make me into a criminal. What is this world coming to?

cause I know that is what I did and there were several other people who also did the same. Plus you have all the people who called and let them know how they felt. So your level of support might be higher than you think.

...of several different types. Many important people have gone to great lengths to explain the our hobby and life style to the governor. This petition offers the opportunity for the entire community to voice their opinion to the governor....if only 150 herpers out of millions will take a second to sign the petition...well....how could it be taken seriously by the governor? It only takes a minute...

And thank you and everyone who has done one thing or another to help our fight in NY!!!

I spoke to assemblyman Tonko's(the sponser of the bill)legislative assistant about 3 weeks ago and she assured me that the final version of this bill will not include all members of the boidae family, only the 4 largest(burms,rocks,retics&anacondas). However, I think we should continue to apply as much pressure as possible. Maybe we can get them to ammend it even further.

I sure hope you are right. I have emailed the governor but not signed a petition. I do live in NY and it will immediately and directly affect me and mine. 'Cause we all know what a threat Children's Pythons pose. Guess I will get on Randy Kuhl's butt too.

I just got off the phone with Assemblyman Tonko's office. An acompanying billto a02684 has been introduced for the Governor to sign with the ammendments I mentioned in my previous post. Follow the link to see the bill. http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?bn=A11753&sh=t

This is great news on a small front, but they are just trimming the ban enough to get it through.
We need to show our opposition to any ban taking away our rights to own any snake. I don't personally own hots or big boids, but I fully support the rights of any responsible herper who wants to.
DON'T stop showing support just because it’s not in your back yard today.
